While Nollingen is today a suburb of Rheinfelden, it is nevertheless the historical backbone of the agglomerated city which Rheinfelden has become. Historical records of Nollingen can be dated as far back as the year 752 AD.
The Two Rheinfeldens – Twin Cities on the Rhine (Germany/Switzerland)
The twin cities are closely knitted to one another: the young “badische” Rheinfelden on the north side of the Rhine, and the almost 900-year-old “Zähringerstadt” on the opposing Swiss bank. With the help of 3 bridges, the two cities are not only historically and culturally, but also physically connected to one another, making cross-border commutes for both business and private undertakings easy to carry out by foot, bike, car, bus or rail.
The two cities have a wide spectrum to offer visitors: from guided city tours, shopping and gastronomical indulgences to a visit at the Feldschlösschen Brewery, the subterranean karstic caverns of the Tschamberhöhle, a tour of one of the local hydroelectric dams or a simple and relaxing visit to the Sole Uno spa and wellness resort.
